ASHES OF TIME (1994)
You know, somewhere, I have no idea where, there is a complete review of
this film floating around already. I saw it finally in the lean, mean months
of summer,. somewhere before the new job, the new place, and the new look
at a lot of my relationships, and I should really resee it before I review
it. I'm sure my thoughts will have changed somewhat. But I will say this:
see this movie. If someone else hasn't said it, I will; director Wong Kar
Wai does for romantic longing what John Woo does for guns. Ashes of Time
is a beautiful, poetic, challenging movie that turned people's conception
of HK cinema on its head. I know that you're probably cheesed that I didn't
even include a plot sypnosis but believe me: it wouldn't have helped. Do
yourself a favor and see it.
