LazyBastard.Com
Bio
Other sites will frequently give you a detailed
list of accomplishments, thoughts and proclivities of the site's creator.
But at LazyBastard.Com, we feel a few simple lists will do. And if at
all possible, these should the same lists that we copped from truly interesting
people that we know. Although literature would never attempt to assemble
a portrait of a character through a slight melange of lists, LazyBastard.Com
is devoted to proving that the Web is not literature. It is the motto
of our revolution, the fire of our bellows. Now, if you excuse us, we
have a nap to return to.....
Favorite Movies
- The Killer -- John
Woo's Blood Opera. An over the top gunfight every ten minutes.
- Duck Soup -- The Marx Bros. vs. The 20th Century.
The Marx Bros., of course, win.
- Double Indemnity -- Film Noir classic.
Wit, damnation and Edward G. Robinson.
- Brazil -- Brilliant, dazzling futuristic slapstick
about the price of dreams.
- Gregory's Girl -- Scottish teens look for
love. A masterpice of amiable charm.
- Project A Part II -- Jackie Chan's classic.
Classic comic/action setpieces.
- Drunken Master II -- Jackie Chan's swan song.
Probably will never make them as good as this again.
- Yojimbo -- Kurosawa and Mifune launch the
Spaghetti Western and the anti-hero. Unrivaled.
- Santo Vs. The Zombies
-- Mexican wrestlers vs. the supernatural. The prototype.
- Wrestling Women vs. the Aztec Zombie--Female
mexican wrestlers vs. the supernatural. Beautiful & inept.
- Swordsman II -- One of the greatest movies
ever. Period. Action, fantasy, satire, subversion.
- Touch of Evil -- The closer of the way. Welles
outnoirs noir at every turn.
- Miller's Crossing -- The Coen Brothers' do
the greatest uncredited adaptation of Hammett since Yojimbo. One of
the best movies of the '90s.
Favorite
Hong Kong Films
- The Killer -- See
above. The first Hong Kong movie I ever saw.
- Hard Boiled -- Woo's energetic version of
Dirty Harry. Also a meditation on identity and place (with pistols blazing).
- Armor of God II -- Jackie Chan's largest movie.
Tries to fill every scene with speed, grace and charm.
- Drunken Master II -- Chan renders the Hollywood
action movie largely unwatchable with this triumph.
- Project A, Part II -- Like DMII, a sequel
and a period piece, making it unlikely that most Americans will ever see it.
- Better Tomorrow, Part II -- Forced into a
sequel, John Woo produces a masterpiece. A rosetta stone to Woo's work.
- Swordsman II -- A triumph of cinema.
An action adventure movie with secret agendas a go go.
- Chinese Ghost Story I -- Ching Siu Tung's
first great film. Effortlessly changes from comical to magical.
- Chinese Ghost Story II -- The sequel and even
better than the first. Subversive.
- Once Upon A Time In China, Part I -- Tsui
Hark's action packed re-imagining of Hong Kong's great hero.
- Once Upon A Time In China, Part II -- The
sequel brilliantly inverts the first movie on itself.
- Fist of Legend -- Jet Li's remake of a Bruce
Lee flick. Charisma and action that Hollywood stars could never hope
to match.
- Magic Cop -- My favorite Lam Ching-Ying movie.
Supernatural action and big city adventure.
- Yes, Madam! -- Like
watching three movies simultaneously. Some of the fights brought tears
of joy to my eyes.
- Police Story I -- First Jackie Chan movie
I ever saw. I almost broke the rewind button on my VCR.
- The Blade -- Tsui
Hark takes on Wong Kar Wai. Frenetic, inventive, extraordinary.
- Angel Terminators II
-- "Chicks who kick butt" done very well. Yukari Oshima's extraordinary
ability and presence moves this movie from the competent to the inspired.
- Full Contact -- Ringo Lam & Chow Yun Fat's
Point Blank. Disturbing, brutal, adrenal.
- Bullet in the Head -- John Woo's examination
of innocence and evil. The Deer Hunter, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre,
Mean Streets; this movie is indebted to all and second to none.
- Righting Wrongs
-- A Hong Kong Jacobean tragedy. Cynthia Rothrock's introduction causes
chills.
