WRESTLING WOMEN VS. THE AZTEC APE (1962)

With this movie, I fear that I've extinguished Le Video's selection of Mexican Wrestlers Battle the Supernatural movies. Does anyone know where I can rent more? Help! I'm hooked.

This one, lamentably, is Rhino's rerelease, Rock and Roll Wrestling Women Vs. the Aztec Ape, which means that, like their Rock and Roll Wrestling Women Vs. the Aztec Mummy, is filled with shitty, smirky rock tunes that are supposed to add to that general air of campy fun; songs like "It's in her kicks" (ha, ha) and "go, go, wrestling women" (yuck, yuck). Hey, Rhino, how about letting me actually figure out where the amusement lies in watching two women wrestlers fight a mad doctor and his monster? I'm sure I'm up to it.

Apart from the crappy music, Wrestling Women isn't quite up to the standards of the other movies I've seen in the genre. This movie was either made more cheaply or more quickly than the others, and so lacks the sort of surprisingly good lighting and shot composition of, say, Santo vs. the Zombies. It leads to some amusing sets (the mad scientist's lab is apparently located behind a nightclub storeroom, stacked up as it is with chairs and empty cardboard boxes), and some slightly shorter wrestling scenes than normal. And anyone who's seen any of the other movies, or any episode of Scooby Doo for that matter, will be able to figure out the secret identity of the mad scientist. So, I can't quite give this the ecstatic rating that I have the other Wrestling Women movie, but I still recommend it if you want to see some stylish women slugging henchmen and fighting evil. Now I just have to figure out how to see all of the other movies. I am obviously an addict.
